About This Service

The service will operate through the medium of the Irish language and is located within the grounds of the local primary school Scoil Naisiúnta an tSraith Mhór, in the Gaeltacht area of Glendownan. This privately-operated pre-school service proposes to provide a part time childcare service including a sessional pre-school service for children in the local community aged from 2 years and 8 months to 6 years. The service is proposing to cater for a maximum number of 22 children at any one time. Currently, 6 children all aged over 3 years are enrolled to attend the proposed pre-school once service provision commences. The proposed hours of operation are from 9:00am to 2:00pm, Monday to Friday for approximately 50 weeks of the year (closing for 2 weeks Christmas holidays). The proposed sessional service will run concurrently from 9:15am to 12:15pm, Monday to Friday for 38 weeks of the year (during term time). The service proposes to participate in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme. Premises The proposed pre-school service will occupy a newly constructed, single storey building located on a designated site within the wider grounds of the local primary school (Scoil Naisiúnta sSraith Mhór). The pre-school building has a brightly lit entrance lobby leading into one open-plan pre-school room. The pre-school room is served by two separate sanitary areas which can be accessed easily from the children’s indoor play area; these include children’s toilets and a large accessible toilet which has been identified for use by staff. A new nappy-changing table and mat is also available here should these facilities be required. A separate kitchen area is located off the pre-school room. This area was inaccessible on the day of the inspection and will not be in use while the pre-school service is operating until planned regularisation works to upgrade fire resistance construction in the kitchen facility has been completed as detailed in the service’s fire/building certification documentation submitted to the Inspectorate’s Registration Office. There is a designated outdoor play space located on-site which can be accessed directly from the pre-school room via the lobby or a fire exit door located on the building’s eastern-facing side.
